Issue at Hand: After losing one little boy, the Brewers are looking for your help to bring home a second child.
Story: Together, Ryan and Ashley Brewer have been composing a love story for the ages. It is one of great strife and surpassing strength, but it is not one that they take the credit for authoring.
Shortly after beginning their lives together, Ryan and Ashley were blessed with two children, Adella and Cornelius. In July of 2008, Ryan and Ashley’s second child, Cornelius (Case) John Brewer, was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), a recessive gene that both Ryan and Ashley carried. Side-by-side, their family of four battled this illness with every fiber of their being, always conscious of Case’s wishes. They travelled to Utah to see the world’s leading SMA specialist, spent countless days in the hospital, and prayed endlessly. The day eventually came when Case made it clear to them by the look in his eyes that it was time to let him go. Despite every effort and every prayer, Case came to pass in their arms on January 8, 2009.
Their long battle against an unseen enemy had ended, but Case’s spirit did not. Sometimes, life asks us to let something go in order to receive a new and different blessing. The most important lesson Ryan and Ashley learned from Case is that, in order to enjoy this life, they must submit themselves to the plans and gifts that God has in store for them.
A few months ago at a church service, Ashley heard a woman share about adoption. While she was speaking, Ashley felt God tugging at her heart, grabbing her attention. Though they had both resigned to the fact that Adella would be an only child, it seemed that God had something very different in mind for them. Two weeks later, they finished their home study and met with their lawyer. Though the adoption process has had its share of ups and downs, Ryan and Ashley are excited for the next part of their journey together to see what God has written out for them.
Helping the Brewers: In order for the Brewers to bring a little boy into their family, they will need to raise $10,000. Any support you would be willing to offer, be it financially, mentally, or emotionally, is definitely in need and not without gratitude. The Donation Page will show you how to give directly to the Brewer family. We would also love to see you at the Brewer Family Benefit that will be held at Central Baptist Church on June 4th!
